| Royal Air Force Queens College Oxford Thurs Midday Darling Mother I am still keeping clear of the flu but Jowitt who shares my room was v. bad this morning. He tried to report sick last night because he was feeling funny but they wouldn't have it - all red tape, you must report sick at 8:45 in the morning so he had to sleep in his usual bed . Now the sick list in Queens is 60% of the total no of cadets + of those not actually ill most are feeling a bit funny. I am writing this in a punt on the river - it is the best thing to do as you can't walk about from 9 in the morning till 10.45 at night so the only thing to do is boating. Some people sit about in the fields all day but that is asking for trouble as they are not by any means dry. This afternoon there is some fours racing practice and if I stick at it I have a good chance of rowing for the college so shall be there. I am already in a four chosen from members of the 53rd course and when the 51st + 52nd have cleared out we shall probably represent Queens. It is fine excercise but v.hard work.- however they break you into it. Very frakly and at first we never do more than 30 strokes at a stretch without an "easy". There are all sorts of wild rumours of leave but I don't place too much faith in them as I believe they intend to wait until everybody has had it + then resume the work as usual. Keep clear of it in 28 Ferry! Tons of love and kisses Yr Loving son Dudley |
