Darling Mother
Rather surprised have not yet heard from you. Perhaps you did not follow out instructions as to address if so letters cannot possibly reach . It has been a roasting day down here, just like summer + parade in this is no light job. Yesterday was pay-day but instead of drawing any pay I had to shell out to the quartermaster to the extent of 3 bob which means that the Army have run me up a bill of nearly 14/- . This includes purchase of physical training clothing + a special note book which all RAF Cadets have to get costing 3/3 + numerous small weekly subscriptions to various sports and ….. which are deducted without the cadets consent or even knowledge of what they are for. However it is no good grumbling because the pay officer is madly keen on games + is also the one who has the job of recommending us.

I have had to get a lot of things outside in the way of cleaning materials , brushes etc to polish rifle, bayonet, belts, buttons ….. etc. but have still got exactly £1 left so am quite all right at present . I have not really begun the course in san… yet – that is a pleasure to come on Mon. They work us like niggers down here, if it is not parades it is lectures + vice versa but we are rather definitely transferred from from Hampstead. I will send you full programme of the day’s work directly I know it . I am writing from here as it is so much easier than from my room hunched up on the floor. Unfortunately they only allow us one sheet per go and I did not bring any of my own.

Keep up the bicycling and don’t get out of practice

your loving son Dudley
