| Royal Air Force Queens College Oxford Wed Darling Mother Thanks for the letter and I have got the ovaltine. Unfortunately it is not merely a matter of ,,,, in getting commissions because I can keep my end up in ... and theory all tight but most of marks are scored in sports drill etc. + its is rather hard to compete with men who have been in the army for 4 years on ... However I have not been ticked off once + am going in for rowing in ... The cox of the forces is a chap I knew very well at St Pauls in L. Cecil Smiths form so I always get a good place + he puts my name down every time I go so that's a help. The ... you sent is a great boon, especially before the 6:15 run and late at night + it was a really good lot . Today there is a sudden + widespread epidemic of nasty influenza. Last night everyone went to bed feeling as usual except a few with headaches + this morning we found that many had been up sick all night + high temperatures + bad heads and throats. The commandant ordered a parade for teh whole school this morning + he told us that there were already 80 cases down with it + more expected by the Medical Officer tomorrow so acting on the M.O.'s advice he has stopped all classes for the next few days as class rooms cause spreading and instead we are to have one parade in the morning + all the rest of day outside playing games or on the river. I am fortunate in having a small room with only one other chap as there is likely to be less chance of catching it than in a big room for about 6. Jowitt had a bottle of Landalis Concentrated Essence of Cinnamon in his bag + we both took a stiff does as soon as possible + this evening after parade was over I went out and got a bottle of your favourite Maggsains Influenza Cinnamon Tablets which I will take regularly. I shall spend tomorrow out walking + on the river in a canoe with one or two others + keep clear of teh college as much as possible. I will write again tomorrow evening + let you know how I am getting on. Tons of love and kisses Your loving son Dudley. |
