Darling Mother

Thanks for the letter which I had yesterday evening. I have just been inoculated + they wanted to vaccinate me as well but I convinced the doctor that it was not necessary, but if marks had not been fairly fresh looking should have been vaccinated as well. Lots of people had both - very nice!! I am excused duties for 48 hours but have to attend lectures which of course won't be any harm. Some people got rather bad after inoculation but I don't think it causes such inconvenience as a rule. The dinner scheme starts this evening but I hope they don't intend to take the dinner rations out of the lunch ones. We get up at 6:15 + have "gunfire" (i.e. washy coffee + 2 biscuits) + their follows 3/4 hours physical training + very violent at that . We then dress for breakfast + march down to teh dining hall. After breakfast comes ceremonial parade which means standing on the parade ground at attention while the colonel talks. We then march back and have another parade + drill followed by another parade + more drill, then comes a lecture + dinner. After that another parade + drill and then a lecture + tea at 4.30 after which we are free for the rest of the evening - at least nominally "free" but that really only means swotting up after cleaning rifle, bayonet, belts + buttons. Lights out at 10.15 at which hour we are all supposed to be in unless we have a late pass. You will see from the above that we have plenty to do . Let me know if you are coming down + also where you are staying so that on Sat, I shall be able to come over in the afternoon as soon as poss after lunch which is at 1 o'clock so I hope I ought to be able to be at your place at 2.30 at any rate. I think it is best that I should come to your house as if we arrange to meet anywhere } I were put on billet orderly duty I should n't be able to turn up and you would be kept waiting. In any case if I don't come you will know I have been unfortunate enough to be shoved on some job like that } as a matter of fact it is about my turn. Of course if you don't want to come down leave it till another week but we shall have to take these chances in any case. My arm is beginning to swell already } very stiff although it is less than 2 hours ago but are we all in the same boat. Love and kisses
Yr loving son
