Darling Mother,

Thanks very much for letter which arrived Monday, not at all bad for posts . I am not yet allocated to an instructor am in what is called the “pool” pending a vacancy . I don’t know how long , but it may be for the rest of the week. The weather has been rotten … but I find those black rubber boots a great help – they fit over the others + are both warm + waterproof . The Sgt Mess is … food and any amount of stuff – as much as you ask for and four meals a day. At present I don’t see any difference between Cadets and NCO’s except that the former have a batman + mess with the officers = both doubtful priviledges. We all have the same machines + I am fortunate in having got into No. 1 flight group by application with Jowett where we have Avro machines – by far the best here + mostly new. Of course I don’t yet know much about the place + …… as am still a “new arrival” . No , we don’t get any kit dished out here but that really doesn’t matter much I am keeping my … tunic as it looks very “posh” with ssyants chivrons !! I don’t know of any places round here where you could stay except in Salisbury which is as I say barely 8 miles and certainly
