Darling Mother

Tnks very much for letter and 2 parcels - they were a very pleasent surprise as when my name was read out for Orderly Room I thought that some trivial offence had come to light but instead I found two parcels and this letter. The £1 was also very pleasing but really I don't need it yet as I got 7/6 pay yesterday (2/6 surcharged for final sub for new swimming track which is to be my final sports sub) and it was very good of M (Marjorie his sister) to send 10/-. I am getting much more settled in this place now but there is a develish amount of work to do . I am in the 53rd course (i.e. course of cadets who have been through the school) and the 50th course had their exam last week and those who passed have got weeks leave pending vacancies at Uxbridge but I hear that the 51st and 53rd courses will miss it and the 52nd get it as they give it to alternative course and then both proceed to Uxbridge together. However there are .... As you say, it will be very hard to get commissions under new regime but I must go in for rowing thoroughly and that will stand in my favour. The chocolate is excellent and no doubt the biscuits are also but I shan't open them till late tonight. We get pretty hungry by 11:00 at night. I was up at 3 oclock last night as there was a practice alarm given and I was of course on fire piquet. How is bicycling going? You have not told me.

Tons of love and kisses
Many thanks for tuck and cash
Yr affectionate son
