| Royal Air Force Queen's College Oxford Darling Mother Just a line to let you know I have kept clean so far but it is spreading fast + + all the other five Officer Cadet Battalions down here have got 8 days leave with renewal if necessary but of course there is no such luck in the Royal Air Force. Out of a total roll of 130 we mustered only 80 on parade this morning: getting on for half are down and that is in Queens Squadron only. I spent the whole morning in a skiff on the river and went halves with Jowett and this afternoon I am going to rowing practice in ?? fours so I think that’s the best way to keep clean if possible. People are reporting sick all day now, not only on the sick parades in the morning. A special part of the college is kept for them and the M.O. has ordered a no-meat diet but they are quite well off really. We are not allowed in college between 9.30 and 12 in morning and 2 o’c and 7 afternoon + 8.45 – 10.45 at night. Also all restaurants are placed out of bounds so what with rowing and swimming + walking etc you can guess we are well nigh starving between 7.30 and 1 and 1 – 8. Its too long + midday today we only had a poached egg on spaghetti + not much at that. Those biscuits are very useful indeed but I have also got some Horlicks Tablets . I take lineaments all day + I feel absolutely like a walking medicine bottle. Jowett is feeling a bit doubtful but I don’t think got it, if he has I have but feel very fit at present. I hope Frey Lane has kept clear of the epidemic which I understand has visited London. Am glad to hear you have become proficient with bike and keep it up. Tons of love and kisses Yr loving son Dudley |
