| Sunday Evening: Royal Air Force Queens Squadron Oxford Darling Mother Just a line to let you know all’s well here but unfortunately we are moving into camp tomorrow + the last few days have been very wet + nasty + today we pitched tents in pouring rain. Yet it doesn’t matter as far as dampness is concerned as we have waterproof sheets to sleep on. I believe we shall be there about 10 days + during that time I think it would be best to address my letters “Queen’s Squadron” not “College” but of course it won’t matter much which way you put it as the people at Headquarters know where Queens are. This new signalling stunt has been giving me a good deal of trouble but I have got the buzzer going and Jowett sends me some long groups every night and so I hope to improve.. I am not by any means the only one in this position , indeed only about ½ have passed the sixes test so far – it is not the speed but it is the long time that is the trouble + I am no good at concentrating my attention to one subject for very long. I weighed myself the other day for …. + found I am 10st 11ibs. Without clothes + 11st 4lbs with clothes + at the Air Board in London I only went 9st 8lb + 10st with clothes, so this life seriously doesn’t disagree with me despite the grumbles. I hear that you have been having bad strikes in Hammersmith. The parcel was an excellent one but the cake really was a knockout – an excellent mixture and flavour but somewhat … We are having a colossal amount of rammed into us + preliminary exams star tomorrow (Mon) week + the finals in a fortnight + there yet remains a lot to be done on account of that week missed – they don’t seem to be able to get that out of their fat heads. Must now close with tons of love , your loving son Dudley. |
