| Mon. Sgts Mess 14 TDS Lake Down, Salisbury Darling Mother Had your letter and it was certainly lucky you managed to secure the goggles – quite worthy of a medal . Thanks very much for £1 and we will try and get into Salisbury one day = in fact I want to do so to get a razor but don’t send me the money as I have heaps - £5 in fact as haven’t yet spent the money I came with an then you sent £2 soon afterwards so am well off. I will write to Sedgewick . The medical officer is very nice but of course there isn’t much room in the small hospital for colds and flu as it has to be kept for accidents but we have managed to pinch some coal and can have a fire in the evenings so that’s much better . There are some colds and a little flu going round but nothing serious but I take the pills – but don’t send Anything more yet as I can’t take more - these are pretty strong of quinine and the other day after taking 4 as the chap next to me had a bad cold I got a bit of a headache after flying for the first time. They are no doubt very good in moderation. The ABC choc is quite good but difficult to get I expect . No I don’t fly solo yet as the weather is not much good for instruction. Captain Cook takes me up a good deal for passenger trips when he is going anywhere himself but unlike many instructors he is very good in not putting that down as dual instruction . He is head of the flight group but many of the junior instructors take their pupils up for passenger flips and then have it put against the pupil as dual just for their own credit in mounting up flying times. Its very unfair on the pupils but very largely done. As a matter of fact I have only just got 4 hours dual which is a good wangle ?? considering the time I’ve been here. Tons of love and kisses you loving son Dudley |
